Set in Arkansas in 1957,  the complexities of identity, yearnings for love and acceptance, and racial tension are all unmasked in the riveting literary drama, Melting the Blues, by debut author Tracy Chiles McGhee.

Augustus Lee Rivers, a farmer and bluesman, has two obsessions:  his relationship with the Duncan family and his desire to leave small town Chinaberry to become a musician in Chicago. When his plans are prevented by a devastating betrayal, Augustus is driven into the belly of the blues where he must reckon with his past if he is to move forward. This intriguing, multi-layered historical tale beckons readers down a red dirt country road to bear witness to an unforgettable time, place, and people.

A brave, musical story rich with Southern history.” Kirkus Reviews

Sasha Ariel Alston

Sasha Savvy Loves to Code is an early reader chapter book (ages 7-10). The main character, Sasha Savvy, is a super smart 10-year old African-American girl, who lives in Washington, DC. Sasha must choose which class to take for summer camp. Her mom discovers that the camp is offering a new class for girls on how to code. Sasha thinks this will be boring and doesn’t believe that she is good at computer stuff. Despite this, she decides to give it a chance and convinces her best friends Gabby Reyes and Ashley Webster, to attend the coding camp with her. Sasha’s mom, a Software Developer, gives her a unique formula to help her remember how to code but will it be enough to get her through a challenging first day of camp with bugs everywhere, computing errors, that is.

Sasha Ariel Alston, known as the STEM Queen, is the author of the children’s book Sasha Savvy Loves to Code. From Washington, D.C., Sasha is a college student majoring in Information Systems at Pace University, Lubin School of Business in New York. With eight successful internships at business and information technology enterprises such as Peter Marcus Group, Infor, Microsoft,  and Everfi, she is a sought-after speaker encouraging youth, especially girls of color, to pursue educational and career opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). She has appeared on Good Morning America, been featured in Huffington Post & Black Enterprise, and inspired girls to dream big in Disney, Google, Snapchat, and Yahoo initiatives.
